Have an unwarranted wall of text in response. ;)
I graduated with CHEFA, so I did have a ‘graduating class’ of about 30 people, and that was nice. I was thankful to have it, especially since I really didn’t have any friends in the area at that time and I was able to make some new friends that year. I had local friends from my senior class I could see movies with on weekends, and I had some other friends I was closer to who I could share my concerns about graduating with.
Now it’s three years later (no idea how that happened), and I’m barely in touch with any of the people I spent all my time with that year. I’m not saying that’s what would happen to you or what will happen to you. But I’ve found that your circumstantial friends, the ones you’re friends with because you’re “the seniors” or because you’re “the youth group” or whatever tend to be the ones you lose track of. The ones you’re actually talking to about how you’re handling graduation and everything are the ones who will still be around. So in a lot of ways, having a graduating class isn’t as important as people seem to make it. Heck, high school in general isn’t as important as people seem to make it. ;)
And yeah, I think being all over the place emotionally about graduating is normal. It’s exciting and different and weird. It was mostly exciting for me, but there were the occasional panic attacks, confusion and one notable breakdown on the graduation cards aisle of CVS. I imagine it’s even more strange for those who are moving out of the house and away for college. But you’ll get through it, and college is fun. Really.
PS: it is really weird to me that you’re just now graduating. You seem so much older! Haha. In a good way. :)
